How it began
Caffe Lusso Coffee Roasters was established in 1999 by Roastmaster Philip Meech, while he was completing a degree in business at Washington State University. He acquired his passion for coffee after many years in the coffee industry in the Seattle area, first as a barista and then as an aspiring coffee roaster. Like many before him, he was amazed at how easy it was to find a bad cup of coffee in Seattle, the ”coffee capital” of the Northwest. Also like many before him, he was resolved to do something about it and Caffe Lusso was born.
Where is it going?
Caffe Lusso is determined to provide its customers with the best cup of coffee that can be procured from available green sources. This philosopy has met success with a growing number of like-minded coffee connoisseurs who are quickly spreading our reputation as perfectionists who refuse to compromise. Our passion for perfect coffee is not limited to the connoisseur alone, but to all those touched by every step in the process from cultivation to cup.
On the surface, this may seem a bit simplistic, but it is anything but simple. There are a lot of distractions in the market place with terms such as “fair trade,” “shade grown,” “organic” and “helping birds migrate,” to list just a few. However, none of these terms translates directly into a good cup of coffee. Some of our coffee selections do fall into these categories, but that is not why they were selected. We prefer to work directly with individual farms and farmers to locate the best coffee. This is our way of ensuring that the best sustainable crops receive the best prices.
What is our style?
Our roasting style doesn’t have a name. We roast to highlight the distinctions of origin. We also offer a limited selection of coffees so that we are not distracted by trying to provide everything to everyone.
